THE INTERESTING RACE

TIR 6 - NEW YORK CITY - SATURDAY AUGUST 6, 2011

THE TEAMS OF TIR 6

WHO ARE WE?

WHO ARE WE?

In our hall closet you will find board games, puzzles, a vacuum cleaner, broken dreams and some coats.  We want to talk about the games.  Life, Risk, Clue, Pretty Pretty Princess, Mall Madness and Connect Four are still in their original boxes from when we were kids. Flash forward some thirty years later and we are still having Game Nights with our friends.  While the players may be older and the games somewhat newer (Pictionary, Scene It, Tri-Bond) one thing remains unchanged.  We still have fun.

And that's what we want The Interesting Race to be for all of you.  What better reason to get friends, co-workers and strangers together on a Saturday morning in Manhattan?

When the Registration Packets become available online, you will find a Race Application, a copy of the Race Eligibility Requirements and a Waiver/Release form. You’re probably thinking to yourselves, "Wow, guys, way to suck the fun out of that one!" But any of you who have participated in our previous races know that we like everything to be above board. And whenever money is involved people can get "funny". And we don’t mean ha-ha funny.

Regarding the money, we won’t know the exact amount of the Grand Prize probably until Race Day. It will be made up of our own contribution plus most of the registration fees. The remaining portion of the fees will be used for the Race itself. Believe us, we want to award a sizeable prize (last year’s prize was $1,500). We’re not going to make you run high and low from dawn until dusk just to win thirty bucks.  We are serious about the Race and we are serious about having fun. And we’re beyond thrilled that so many of you nuts are joining us for what has become an annual event.

But first things first: find a partner, start training, rev up your mojo, put on your game face, roll the dice and spin again.

And stay tuned for more information.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
MEL

DEAR MEL
Our cat, Mel, handles the Q&A.

Q:  Dear Mel, when can I get an application for the Race?

A: Race applications will be available on April 1, 2011.  You will be able to download them from the website.  The registration deadline is June 30, 2011.  Late registration is possible but the cost per team will be $100.

Q:  Dear Mel, how long is the Race?

A: All day. And I mean all day.  It usually begins at 10am and ends sometime after 6pm. And then, of course, there is the Post-Race Party.

Q:  Dear Mel, how much does it cost to enter the race?

A: The registration fee is $50 per team unless you register after the June 30 deadline in which case the registration fee per team in $100.

Q:  Dear Mel, just how demanding will the physical portion of the Race be?

A: You won’t be repelling down skyscrapers or swimming across the East River.  Paul and Blair won’t be asking racers to do anything they wouldn’t be able to do themselves (but you’d better bring some Advil).

Q: Dear Mel, what do I need to bring with me on Race Day?

A:  All registered teams will receive a Race Day Packet one month before the Race.  It has all the information you will need (directions, rules, etc.).  A team cell phone and a MetroCard is mandatory for Race Day.  The use of Blackberrys, iPhones, etc. is allowed.  A detailed list of what you should and should not bring will be in the Race Day Packet.

Q: Dear Mel, what if it rains on Race Day?

A:  Let me tell you about water.  I don’t like it.  Yet once a year I am subjected to a bath against my will.  I don’t submit easily.  Ask Paul or Blair to show you their scars.  If I can handle “bath time” you can handle a little rain.

Q: Dear Mel, are you the official race mascot?

A:  Yes. You are free to worship me anytime it’s convenient (for me).  Worshipers with food to the front of the line.

Q: Dear Mel, can I invite family and friends to watch me race?

A: What typically happens is that the “watchers” start to help the racers with their tasks.  This is not allowed.  If they really want to see the race, tell them to sign up or become a Race Official.

Q:  Dear Mel, will meals be provided on Race Day?

A:  Meals?  Sure.  Bring a can opener ‘cuz I’ve got a can of whupp-ass with your name on it.

Q: Dear Mel, what if my teammate needs to drop out after we have already registered?  Can we make team substitutions?

A:  Absolutely. Just have the new team member submit a signed application

Q:  Dear Mel, do Paul & Blair make any money from producing the Race?

A:  Paul & Blair do not make any money from the Race.  Most of the registration fees go toward the prize money. The rest goes toward overhead costs and supplies.

Q:  Dear Mel, do Paul & Blair ever customize Races for private and corporate events?

A:  They certainly do.  Just send an email with some preliminary details and watch the magic happen.
